thedailywhat:

RIP: Andy Rooney, humorist, essayist, and longtime “cranky commentator” best remembers for his weekly curmudegeoning session on 60 Minutes, passed away last night in New York City of complications following minor surgery. He was 92.
Rooney began his career in television in the late 1940s, as the nascent technology was coming into its own. He wrote his first essay for CBS News in 1964, as part of a collaboration with venerable correspondent Harry Reasoner.
Rooney’s relationship with 60 Minutes started in 1978, and lasted until October, 2011, when he retired after 1,097 commentaries.
“It’s a sad day at ‘60 Minutes’ and for everybody here at CBS News,” said CBS News chairman and 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager. “It’s hard to imagine not having Andy around. He loved his life and he lived it on his own terms. We will miss him very much.”
Over on 60 Minutes Overtime you can find a collection of some of the best essays Rooney has delivered in his 40 years on the air.
